Solid Ceramic Wire Guide Nozzles

Emerging in recent years are Wire Guide Nozzles in Solid Ceramics, particularly those made of Solid Zirconia. Since pure Zirconia is unfitting for wear-resistant applications, two (2) options remain:

               TZP   Tetragonal Zirconia Polycrystal
               ZTA   Zirconia   Toughened   Alumina

TZP ( Tetragonal Zirconia Polycrystal) Guide Nozzle

TZP is also known as Partially Stabilized Zirconia which is becoming one of the material of choice for critical wear components in view of its superior wear resistance and surface finish. It has been chosen for our Wire Guide Nozzles. The list of comparison below illustrates the reasons behind our selection. Please take note the relatively lower Hardness of TZP is more than compensated by its superb Fracture Toughness. Indeed, wear tests at COSMOS revealed that the wear resistance of TZP is slightly superior to that of synthetic ruby. Its diamond lapped surface roughness of 1 - 2 micro-inches Ra is only matched by that of Ruby.

While the material ZTA exhibits a slightly better hardness, its lower Fracture Toughness precludes it from our Wire Guide Nozzle family.
